Tim & Jean

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on April 28, 2010 by silenceisboring

The first thought that came to my mind when I heard ‘Come Around’ by Australian youngsters Tim & Jean was “Wow…..holy shit, I want more…..right now”.

Unfortunately the synth-pop duo have only got this track to share at the moment, but fear not; it’s as amazing as amazing comes. Armed with a funky bass line and The Similou / Passion Pit like synths and vocals, ‘Come Around’ is a catchy piece of pop that leaves you wanting more.

Supporting the very awesome Operator Please on their tour, Tim & Jean are going places. Fast. Catch the wave.

“C’mon…..don’t wait too long. Yeahh, let’s dance…..don’t miss your chance”.

‘C’mon Let’s Dance’ is as catchy as they come. The newest track available for streaming from Philadelphia band Free Energy, it embodies everything you know and love about those summery moments and the spirit of carefree fun. Light heartedly, Free Energy are sending a pretty straight forward message that in the hustle and bustle of life we’ve all seem to have forgotten.

Essential for those summer bbq’s.

Yes Giantess

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on April 25, 2010 by silenceisboring

The four friends that make up Yes Giantess have come a long way since they began their ‘one-off’ project at the end of 2008. After the success that followed, the Boston dream pop band stayed together, ending up touring with likes of Calvin Harris and Little Boots, gaining worldwide attention.

They recently released their latest single ‘The Ruins’ on the slick Neon Gold, and the blog world has lapped it up like organic milk. Produced by Starsmith, ‘The Ruins’ sounds like a wizard playing a Nintendo before dancing around the room in triumph at finishing level 26. It’s happy, positive music at it’s best that you can’t help but smile when listening.

The 7″ is backed by B-side “Call My Name,” a light R&B jam to a forlorn lady.

Young Empires

Young Empires
Think Eastern tropical disco punk. Hmm?

Toronto based disco punk trio Young Empires‘ track ‘Rain of Gold’ has had my feet a tapping and my head a shakin’ for the last few days and I couldn’t help but post it. It’s unique, catchy, fun and I’m having a hard time taking it off repeat. Engulf yourself in it’s goodness.

If It’s Magic, it’s Electric Empire

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on April 22, 2010 by silenceisboring

When I first heard the smooth soul stylings of Electric Empire, I thought “Does Stevie Wonder have a new song, what, who is this?” I was captivated and sat listening to the entire song mesmorised by what was gracing my ears. The last thing I thought was that that these fella’s were from Melbourne. What? Yes, I’m not kidding. After a (very) quick scour on the net, I found near nothing about them except they seem to be very friendly with Gypsy & The Cat and have an album in the works.

Sexy, soulful music at its best.

Luxury Living

Lodging up in London’s most trendy areas hasn’t stopped the band Luxury Living from creating genuinely wonderful disco pop music. The band has sparked up huge interest from their remix of Penguin Prison‘s ‘Something I’m Not’ and now they’re doing the rounds with their own music, and thankfully, its just as fresh, just as smooth and just as catchy.

Catch the Hoxtonites spreading the love on Brick lane at 93 Feet East 14th May.

A Brief Encounter With DCUP

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on April 21, 2010 by silenceisboring

Since I last spoke with Sydney’s very own DCUP, the man famous for his funky triplets, syncopated hi-hats, and disjointed bass lines he’s been busy; playing a ton of shows around Australia, collaborating with Yolanda Be Cool with the result of the highly addictive ‘We Speak No Americano‘ as well as continuing to funk up a multitude of artists with his wonderful remixes.

I decided to see what he is up to at the moment, pick his brain (even if just a little), and the result follows:

So last time I spoke you still had a day job, are you still at the coffee shop?

In theory, but they stopped paying me.

You seem to be getting lots of positive attention from your recent Phonat remix, can we expect the same amount of attitude in your future work?

Who knows?

What’s it been like working with your ‘Sweat It Out’ brethren?

Oh you mean Yolanda Be Cool? Blood, SWEAT and Tears.

What effect do you think blogs and the internet has had on you as an artist?

It makes me awesome.

Who is your most desired artist/producer to collaborate with?

AJAX, were working on it.

What is your view on the notion that aggressive forms of dance music are officially ‘out’?

Not at all, Deadmau5 is still everywhere, Candys apartment still perforates ear drums every week, its only a temporary move away. Scenes are getting more fragmented so whats ‘in’ and ‘out’ each month is different in every post code.

Apart from releasing a whole bunch of remixes, what other future projects do you have coming up?

A Yolanda Be Cool collab pt 2, a track with Pablo Calamari, a new EP and the kitchen sink.

5 tracks your listening to at the moment?

BEatconductor – Caribbean Path
Nelski – Body Pop
PHCB – Baby – Daniel Haaksman Remix
Gorillaz – Superfast Jellyfish – Evil Nine Mix
Voltaxx, Lissat – 8 Days In Kazantip – Alex Kenji Remix

Introducing: NightBus

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on April 20, 2010 by silenceisboring

Straight outta Hackney comes four piece disco pop outfit NightBus. They met on the 345 to Brixton on Boxing Day 2008, and began singing acappella versions of their favourite songs to pass the time. Soon afterwards friendships formed and they found themselves on the very same bus nearly every night and in time started recording their own tunes with a laptop over samples and drum beats.

Now they’ve signed with Island and are setting off on the wildest road trip of their lives. You can’t help but want to join them, their infectious catchy Madonna-esque single ‘I Wanna Be You’ out May picks you up, pays your fare and gives you a seat.

Introducing: Universe

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on April 20, 2010 by silenceisboring

Universe
Mysterious Australia producer Universe has been making the rounds on a few blogs as of late. I got a chance to hear a couple of remixes and I have to say I’m a fan. Muz (the guy who runs the uber cool Sydney club night Sosume at Qbar) is not giving out any information to this producer’s identity; possibly just a friend or a new Falcona signing, it’s staying under wraps for the moment.

Whatever the case its funky, synth heavy music that’s on the rise and Australia seems to be leading the charge.

Introducing: Woman E

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on April 19, 2010 by silenceisboring

Deeply cemented in the roots of original electro and freestyle music, Woman E approach the world of pop music from a seriously artistic angle. It’s cleverly disguised dance-pop for the musically broad minded, and it’s irresistibly catchy.

Forming just 3 years ago, London based producer OoverMatic and sassy songstress Ria-Berlin teamed up to create what they refer to as “melancholy disco”: Dance-pop that lyrically deals with issues other than general pop clichés.

With a string of supercool high-ranking press backups from the likes of i-D magazine, French Vogue and Figaro, it’s hard to picture a bleak future for Woman E, and clearly, they must be doing something right. Be sure to get into this band before your friends do.

If your in London catch Woman E at The Spice of Life this Friday 23rd of April.

The Hundred In The Hands

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on April 19, 2010 by silenceisboring

The excitingly fantastic duo The Hundred In The Hands‘ and their single ‘Dressed in Dresden’ are something of magic. Super lovely magic. The single is irresistibly catchy (it’s been on repeat for the last hour or so), and begins with guitar stabs which will immediately have you thinking ‘Banquet’ by Bloc Party, but that’s when Eleanore Everdell’s superb vocals set you up for the dreamy summertime vibe that follows. Sing it with me: ‘In and out, and out and in, in and out and out and in.’

The Hundred In The Hands are due to release their debut EP ‘This Desert’ May 18th on Warp Records. Get busy dancing.
