In the wake of the legendary Australian production duo Bag Raiders finally getting around to releasing their debut self-titled album, we are blessed with a sneak peak in the form of the first single ‘Way Back Home’.
Like it’s divine predecessor ‘Shooting Stars’, ‘Way Back Home’ gives off that same floating, chilled out vibe that escalates into one hell of an anthem. It’s absolutely amazing, you won’t take it off repeat!

Introducing: The Naked And Famous
Posted in Uncategorized with tags The Naked And Famous on August 17, 2010 by silenceisboring
Out of New Zealand comes 5 piece indie POP band The Naked And Famous. Uber awesome label Neon Gold scooped up their single ‘Young Blood’ after it topped the charts in New Zealand. I’m not sure if that’s because they sound very similar to Passion Pit, or that they are a truly amazing pop band, actually it’s most likely both.
Destined to be the next summer anthem, the single is all about being young and free enjoying those carefree summer days where nothing mattered except having a good time with your friends.
Purchase the full single here.

The Naked And Famous will be releasing their debut album Passive Me, Aggressive You September 6th. Only in New Zealand though. Aww.

The Hoosiers: album No. 2
Posted in Uncategorized with tags The Hoosiers on August 16, 2010 by silenceisboring
Today marks the date that English-Swedish pop rock band The Hoosiers release their sophomore album The Illusion Of Safety. I decided to have a listen and, was completely taken aback. It seems The Hoosiers have learnt how to write credible pop music. Lead track ‘Choices’ is a bloody amazing piece of 80s influenced synthpop, complete with one of the catchiest choruses I’ve heard for a while. Other strong tracks on the album include: ‘Unlikely Hero’ and ‘Made To Measure’.
(yay!)

Grum Can’t Shake This Feeling

Our favourite little remixer Grum, released his single ‘Can’t Shake This Feeling’ yesterday on We Play! Records. Even though I was kind of disappointed with said track, he has gone and remixed his own track (the ‘Club Mix’), which, after the first listen, instantly left me jaw dropped and feeling the love.

Introducing: Two Wounded Birds
Posted in Uncategorized with tags Two Wounded Birds on August 13, 2010 by silenceisboring
Feeling in a guitar mood today. Had a look around, and stumbled on this wonderful, dreamy surf pop band called Two Wounded Birds. The London foursome landed the support slot for The Drums tour which is pretty damn cool. I got my hands on a couple of tracks of Two Wounded Birds and immediately recognised The Beach Boys / The Smiths influences, as it’s pretty hard to miss. These guys are going to be the talk on everyone’s lips soon enough, get up it.

Introducing: SPSM

After writing a little post Xuman I did some thinking and had a little scour for some other Russian producer’s I used to really enjoy and I one name I remember is SPSM.
Basically, they are a synth pop duo from St. Petersburg…who umm make good synth pop? Hah! To tell you the truth I don’t know much about them, except they are worth checking out and getting your groove on to.

Introducing: Xuman

Xuman‘s debut single ”Panic” finally saw it’s release last month on Xuman Records. The Russian’s disco / synth pop single made waves around the end of last year being offered to a multitude of blogs, solidifying Xuman as a quality funk-pop producer in the same league as fellow Russians’ Tesla Boy.
Looking forward to hearing more…

DCUP Does Art Vs. Science
Posted in Uncategorized with tags Art vs. Science, DCUP, DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince on August 10, 2010 by silenceisboring
The new Art vs. Science EP came out last Friday and holy moley, it’s terrible. What the hell happened? ”Magic Mountain” is bloody crap. You know, ever since I first Art vs. Science I’ve been hooked, that is until the other day when I heard this latest single. It’s really quite shameful, and so very depressing.
The DCUP remix isn’t all that bad, but you really can’t make shit smell like anything other than shit no.

The only decent thing on the EP is the very amazing live version of their cover of ”Boom! Shake the Room” by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince which fully highlights their previous brilliance.

Chromeo & Aeroplane

Although I was a little disappointed with his album, Aeroplane‘s remixes are always nothing short of amazing. His latest, a discofied remix of Chromeo‘s single ‘Don’t Turn The Lights On’ carries on this legacy.
Pre-order Chromeo’s upcoming album, Business Casual, here.

Introducing: Villa
Posted in Uncategorized with tags The New Sins, Villa on August 9, 2010 by silenceisboring

After months and months of remixing and edits, Belgian balearic nu disco pop threesome Villa finally released their debut single ‘Beats Of Love’. Out last month on Abracada records, the record features London’s The New Sins and provides us with a confident introduction to Villa’s original work.
Villa is made up of Fredo & Thang who have been DJing together for over 10 years and third member, Seba, an avid vintage synth collector. This hook up resulted into their spacey, glittery slash Giorgio Moroder-esque sound that is so strangely titillating.
‘Beats of Love’ is one of those tracks, which you can’t stop listening to, sometimes even to the point of annoyance; it’s just so wonderfully different and enticing. It’s out on Abracada records and is available to purchase here.

Introducing: Mustang
Posted in Uncategorized with tags Mustang on August 9, 2010 by silenceisboring
A Belgium duo going by the name of Mustang and specialising in the spacey nu-disco sound, released their debut EP ‘Chameleon Circus’ on Gomma Records back in February. Suffice to say, it’s one of the most brilliant pieces of work I’ve ever heard and has provided the already amazing Gomma with a monumental boast in credibility.
The floating melodies and gentle harmonies of the title track will sweep you off your feet and into oblivion while the EP in whole, basically can be described as cocaine for disco lovers; packed with so much radness into four little gems that it shouldn’t even be legal.

Introducing: The Aikiu
Posted in Uncategorized with tags Azari & III, Mighty Mous, The Aikiu on August 5, 2010 by silenceisboring
Alex Aikiu is the brainchild behind The Aikiu (no surprises there), a French discopop group made up of Alex himself, the disco legend Pilooski, and a few of his other friends. Case in point: It’s amazing; I’m hooked, line and sinker.
If you’re like me, you’ll have a hard time stopping yourself listening to their debut single ‘Just Can’t Sleep’, as it demands your full attention down to the very last beat, and when it’s over you’ll either sit quietly in complete awe or start playing it all over again.
It’s really not that shocking. Anything Pilooski touches melts my ears, and gets me moving, it’s just great when I hear yet another amazing track that he has put his talents towards. Gives me goosebumps.
The Aikiu‘s brand new track pays homage to the late 70′s and early 80′s, and the infamous days and endless nights of Studio 54. Diggin’ this so very much.
‘Just Can’t Sleep’ is out now on Abracada and can be purchased in full quality right here.

Introducing: Wine & Cheese

Wes Cadwell is a fantastic Nu disco producer from Santa Monica who goes by the brilliant moniker of Wine & Cheese. Not much else is known about him as he seems to have only one networking site, however just take a listen to the tracks available on his soundcloud, and you’ll immediately understand why the name seems to fit perfectly.

So posts for July were somewhat nonexistent at Silence Is Boring. Due to lack of internet in my new apartment, things were looking grim, but thankfully due to Virgin media we didn’t run into August and internet is back up and running. So, for catching up purposes – here’s a bunch of tracks you might like. Let them be the soundtrack for your weekend.
