I am so floored by these guys. These guys will certainly bring bring a much needed end to the winter blues.
The Essex four piece The Milk are hotly tipped as one of 2011′s Bands To Watch, and after hearing their tracks I’ll be the last person to complain. Seriously, after the show at XOYO in December, these guys have already sold out their headline show for HMV’s Next Big Thing festival this Saturday. The singer clearly is influenced from the likes of Billie Holiday, Tina Turner and Ronnie Spector and the rest of the band certainly know how to swing. Their music is soul, it’s reggae, it’s Motown and it’s all rolled up into one brilliant little package.
Their debut single ”(All I Wanted Was) Danger”, is thrilling, soulful pop that runs in the same vein as the likes of Cee Lo Green, except with it’s own unique brilliance.
The single is due to be released March 28th. Mark down the date.
“Pure fire and skill…an immersive experience you don’t want to end” Guardian
“Destined for large things…pour a glass of these chaps” The Fly, Ones To Watch
“Contemporary soulful vocals, reggae beats and eclectic Motown” X Magazine
“The Milk echo The Jam and Dexy’s Midnight Runners in taking the best of Sixties soul and R&B and channelling it into classic, turbo-charged pop” NOTW, Stars For 2011
Warning: Don’t JUST download this, listen to the other tracks as well. ”(All I Wanted Was) Danger” is so god damn great, so make sure you hear it!

Bar a small selections of songs, I’ve never really been an avid listener to Adele‘s stuff. Saying that though, those few songs I do like of hers, I do actually adore.
Case in point would be her first single off her latest album 21. ”Rolling In The Deep”, is a dark, menacing yet thrilling piece of pop music and Adele’s voice is irreproachable. So yes, the point I’m making is I do enjoy the track. When I glimpsed at the words ”Rolling In The Deep (Villa Remix)”, my eyes widened and I couldn’t wait for the download to finish.
The Belgian outfit Villa have disco-ed it up, transforming it into an upbeat, absolute booty shaker.

Excitement. Indie rock band The Kills return with their debut single ”Satellite”, taken from their forthcoming album Blood Pressures (out April 4th in UK and April 5th in US).
”For fans of the street hassle swagger and sass that has come to be associated with The Kills, it’s all still alive and well in their new material, but with an added depth and thoughtfulness which is undoubtedly reflected in the, at times, frankly heartbreaking lyrics”.
Listen to ”Satellite” below:

I accidentally let out a little squeal when I found out about this.
Disco/House producers Louis La Roche and Patrick Alavi have teamed up, and are releasing a single called ‘Number One’, featuring Josh Jakq on Roxor. It’s highly, highly addictive, and accompanied by an equally addictive b-side, which you can download below.

The New York based duo Cults, have somehow become an internet buzz band with nothing other than a Bandcamp page. The duo is comprised of boyfriend/girlfriend Brian Oblivion and Madeline Follin, both 21, both film students and both from San Diego. Their wonderful lo-fi pop is easily accessible, deliciously infectious and perfect sing-a-long music.

When I visited Australia in December, I was driving up the coast listening to Australia’s most popular radio station Triple J and I was gob smacked when I heard this absolute tune by French electronic hip hop artist Guts.
Taken from his 2007 album Le Bienheureux, ”And The Living Is Easy” uses a sample from the famous song ”Summertime” written by George Gershwin, and covered by countless musicians including the the likes of Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong and Sam Cooke, which by itself is pretty amazing.
Guts’ version is off the planet though, and quite difficult to describe. Western desert hip hop?
Hype the crap outta this. It’s deserves to be known.

This Brisbane four piece band Mitzi are tipped to be one to watch in 2011. They released their debut ‘All I Heard’ EP late last year and the response has been highly positive. Apparently they’re bring back disco, and doing quite a nice job at it.
They’ve been compared to Holy Ghost! which definitely can’t be a bad thing, so visit their soundcloud, listen to their tunes and get your hands on their EP. Done and done.

Chicago trio Gemini Club are shit hot at the moment. If their brilliant 2010 single ”Ghost” didn’t win you over, then the threesome’s remixes should. Their effort with Hey Champ‘s track ”Cold Dust Girl” was beyond great and was one of my most played remixes ever. Yes, ever.
Their latest offering is a impeccably produced remix of Chilly Gonzales single ”You Can Dance”, that, similarly to the Hey Champ remix, builds into an epic masterpiece that can be enjoyed on the dancefloor, in the car or even on a lazy afternoon.

Australian dance duo Bag Raiders are due to release ”Sunlight”, the next single off their self titled 2010 debut album. The song itself is incredibly addictive, has an amazing video, and has that same sing-along summery vibe as ”Shooting Stars”. Modular were kind enough to give away fellow Aussie G.L.O.V.E.S remix of the track in 128kps for free.
Get it while it’s hot.

L.A based band and one of 2011′s bands to watch Foster The People have created quite a stir in the U.S with their epic summer anthems, ”Pumped Up Kicks” and their latest offering ”Helena Beat”. Both tracks are highly contagious, with sing a long choruses and will breathe new life into your old dance moves.
The band seem to have been in hiding, apparently recording their album and are releasing their debut EP ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ next Tuesday.
Expect to hear a lot more from these talented individuals.

Earlier this week, Sydney nu-disco duo Flight Facilities uploaded their tropical remix of Cut Copy‘s new single ”Take Me Over” taken from new album Zonoscope, on their soundcloud. It’s probably one of the greatest things you will ever get to listen to. Big call, but valid.
Released later this month.
Enjoy.
